Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is a 5 years degree programme including 1 year internship. (From Indian and Sri Lankan Universities.). In Sri Lanka, only the University of Kelaniya (Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute) and the University of Colombo (Institute of Indigenous Medicine) offer this degree. In Sri lanka, the BAMS degree offers Ayurvedic subjects, Modern medicine subjects, language subjects, sri lankan traditional medicine (Desheeya Chikitsa) and Supplementary Subjects . Entry qualification to this degree programme is a pass in G.C.E A/L Examination in bio science stream with the required Z score level as the university grant commission decides in each year. Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery ( B.A.M.S ) is a medical degree in India, conferred to those who have studied the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional ayurveda. The degree is of five and half years duration, including 1 year internship.Exams are held after every 3 terms.3 Exams in 4and half years. The person having a BAMS degree can practice anywhere in India.There is also teaching of modern anatomy,physiology,principles of medicine,social and preventive medicine,pharmacology,toxicology,forensic medicine,botany,ENT,principles of surgery,etc. along with ayurvedic topics. A B.A.M.S.graduate can practice modern medicine & Ayurveda in the state of Maharashtra, India.
